Something In the Heir by Suzanne Enoch

The picture above is from the Taft Museum's Jane Austen event in the summer of 2022.  The period costumes are the ones Elizabeth and Darcy were wearing when he asked her to marry him the second time!  They seemed perfect for this book.

Something in the Heir by Suzanne Enoch is a whimsical and joyful Regency novel. Will and Emmaline have a marriage of convenience to keep her ancestral home. But, they also need some real children to keep their home. . Enter George and Rose who have the language of sailors, have a tendency to pilfer, and always have something up their sleeve.

Will and Emmaline are probably one of my favorite couples of this year. It was fun to watch each of them and their relationship change in the story. The staff, their neighbors, and relatives were such interesting secondary characters and I wanted Powel, the butler, to come run my house.. The show stoppers of the story are the children, George and Rose whom I adored. They brought joy, laughter and had me smiling at their antics. I found myself very engaged in the story and hoping for everyone’s happy ending.

I loved this unique Regency story that was funny, heartfelt, and full of adventure! Something in the Heir is a great read that I recommend.

I was given a copy by the publisher and not required to write a positive review.

A lifelong lover of books, Suzanne Enoch has been writing them since she learned to read. She is the author of two well-received traditional Regencies, 24 and counting England-set Historical Romances, four contemporary Romantic Suspense novels, and a growing number of Scottish Highlands Historical Romances including the October 2016 release of HERO IN THE HIGHLANDS (Book One in the No Ordinary Hero trilogy).

A native and current resident of Southern California, Suzanne lives with a green parakeet named Kermit, some very chirpy finches, and a small army of Star Wars figures (including a life-size Yoda). Her books regularly appear on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, and when she's not busily working on her next book or staging fights with action figures, she likes to read, play video games, and go to the movies with her large and supportive village.
