An Unlikely Proposition by Rosalyn Eves is a sweet Regency romance that is stand-alone companion to An Improbable Season. Eleanor comes to London after the death of her husband. She is seventeen years old and desperately wants her independence. She is trying to survive the season, and figure out how to move forward as widow. Thalia is trying to start fresh in London and wants to be a published poet. She becomes Eleanor’s companion and friend.

This was a wonderful Regency read with romance, a compelling story and excellent historical details. I felt like I was visiting London and I did not want to leave all of my new friends. The alternating points of view with Elanor and Thalia made this an interesting read and helped me to feel very invested in the characters. The historical details were fascinating and gave the story depth. The book truly sparkled and kept me up late reading.

I adored An Unlikely Proposition by Rosalyn Eves. It is filed with wonderful characters, sweet romance, and the setting of Regency London is one of my favorites. This will be one of my favorites this year. I highly recommend.

The Ladies Rewrite the Rules by Suzanne Allain is a sweet Regency romance. Diane Boyle is incensed that her name has appeared in a book of wealthy marriageable women. She is so mad she goes into town to confront Mr. Dean the writer of the book. Then a plan begins to form.

I adored this book from the beginning to the end. Diane is a beautiful soul who finds her voice and keeps her kindness in this story. Mr. Dean is a truly great hero who has a genuine heart and is so loveable. The supporting characters were funny, interesting, and added charm to the story while receiving the happily ever after they have longed for. The story was so lovely and the beautiful detailed Regency setting made my day. I enjoyed the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and not judging someone before you know their past.

This delightful story had me laughing out loud, sighing, and enjoy the Regency time period. The author’s attention to detail, the depth of the characters, and beautiful writing made The Ladies Rewrite the Rules a wonderful read. I highly recommend.

I actually grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, a world away from romantic locales like India or Edwardian England. But I could escape to those places in the pages of a book, and I frequently did. When I wasn’t reading, I was inventing witty repartee for my Barbie and Ken dolls while smashing their faces together and making smooching noises.

I also loved period movies and musicals. I memorized the lyrics to every song from MY FAIR LADY and would sneak into my parents’ room at night and sing: “Just you wait, ’enry ’iggins, just you wait!” They would toss pillows at me, but I knew they were totally into it. My writing is influenced by those classic, romantic films as well as the novels of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer. My goal is to make readers of my books smile and, even better, laugh.

Beneath His Silence by Hannah Linder

Beneath His Silence by Hannah Linder is her debut book, and it is fabulous! I confess I stayed up late to find out what happened, and I have no regrets! Our heroine, Ella Pemberton, disguises herself as a governess to enter the estate of her late sister’s husband to find out the truth about her death. Lord Sedgewick is a man who hates himself and most of the world around him, but he loves his son dearly.

This was a Regency story that delighted me! It has the mystery, the seaside, the troubled brooding hero, the lovely heroine, and a thoughtful redemptive story. The author weaves beautiful truths through the pages of the story and I was drawn in. The characters were well thought out and relatable, the seaside setting was lovely, and I enjoyed trying to guess the mystery. A satisfying read.

I enjoyed the themes of redemption, figuring out what matters to you, and remembering to look beyond the surface of people we know. This was well written and I look forward to seeing what the author publishes in the future. She is a wonderful voice to add to the faith based Regency romance world. I highly recommend it.

Millstone of Doubt is the second in the Thorndike and Swann Regency Mystery series by Erica Vetsch!  I loved this book!  You walk with both Daniel and Juliette through the story as they attempt to solve a mystery, navigate Regency times, and try to figure out their relationship with each other.  A fabulous story that I greatly enjoyed and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.  A must read that  I highly recommend!

Twilight At Moorington Cross by Abigail Wilson

I love this cover!  Have you seen the sky look like this before and been in awe? There is something about a gorgeous sky that puts life back into perspective for me.   

Twilight at Moorington Cross by Abigail Wilson is a romantic, mysterious Regency read.  Main character, Amelia Pembroke, must choose between two suitors in order to inherit the estate, Moorington Cross, she has been living in while being treated for the last few years. The only problem is she may love someone else all together.  She has no idea who to trust, and neither does the reader.  

I am a huge fan of Abigail Wilson’s stories, and I enjoyed this one.  There were several plot twists, surprises and love interests.  The author does a nice job writing a happily-ever-after that still leaves you guessing to the end. Exploring Moorington Cross as a reader was marvelous and I wished to visit.    

I greatly enjoyed this delightful story and highly recommend it for fans of mystery, regency, and gothic romance.  Being swept away to Regency England  was extremely enjoyable and I highly recommend Twilight at Moorington Cross.

She visits Yorkshire for a Christmas house party.  There is nothing quite like a Regency Christmas house party that is filled with games, a yule log, Christmas carols, wonderful food, and a friends to lovers trope. 

This was a sweet story that put me in the Christmas spirit!  It was fun to learn some Yorkshire slang, celebrate Christmas with friends, and read a Regency novel.  I recommend this adorable Christmas story.

Beryl's Blessing by Edwina Kiernan

Beryl’s Blessing by Edwina Kiernan is a sweet regency romance. It is the third in the Gem’s of Grace series, but definitely a  stand alone novel.  I completely enjoyed the book which had all the lovely delights of a regency novel including balls, society visits, and tea time. 

I loved this character driven story, and was very invested in both main characters.  Beryl and Fredrick  are lonely and both carry much baggage into their arranged marriage. They both have demons from the past that they are fighting as they try to patch together a future relationship. 

The author does a great job of showing both character’s perspectives on their life, faith, and love for the other.  It was a pleasure to see the story unfold with a few twists and turns. Beryl’s Blessing is a story about redemption, learning to forgive, and leaving the past behind.  A delightful read that I highly recommend.

Dusk's Darkest Shore by Carolyn Miller

Dusk’s Darkest Shore is a pure Regency delight set in the Lake District in England.  Carolyn Miller gives you all the feels in this amazing love story. I was drawn in from the beginning and did not want the story to end. 

I felt so connected to main characters Mary Bloomfield and Adam Edgerton.  Carolyn Miller writes beautiful and tender scenes between Mary and Adam as we follow their journey from acquaintances to two people who are deeply in love. Her secondary characters added to the story and I enjoyed watching their transformation.  She effortlessly weaves in God’s sovereignty and explores why every prayer is not answered in the story.  

Dusk’s Darkest Shore is a delightfully written Regency story with authentic characters, some mystery, and a timeless love story.  Regency readers will love the attention to detail of the times and will be looking forward to the next two books in the series.  I highly recommend it.

Pearl's Promise by Edwina Kiernan

 

I am a huge fan of Regency romance and was not disappointed by new to me author Edwina Kiernan’s Pearl’s Promise. It was simply a joy to read. I am so excited that I found the series, Gems of Grace.  

The story follows our main character, Pearl, who is a kind soul who must follow her parents wishes and struggles with their life choices affecting her.  Nicholas, our hero, is a caring man who is trying to make his way in the world and find the correct guidance.  He wants to follow a path of compassion and kindness. Both characters are very likeable, believable, and engaging, and I fell in love with both of them. They have beautiful dialogue with each other and with their heavenly father in this story. 

Pearl’s Promise is a sweet Regency romance with balls, afternoon teas, dancing ,a villain, and the rules of etiquette of the time. But, honestly the story is more than that. The author is able to weave the main character’s faith naturally into the story and portrays their heart’s struggles in a very believable way.  I am now a fan of Edwina Kiernan and look forward to reading the rest of the Gems of Grace series.

Winning the Gentleman by Kristi Ann Hunter

 

Winning the Gentleman by Kristi Ann Hunter is the second book in her Hearts on the Heath series, but is also a stand alone novel.  The story introduces our chatty heroine, Sophia Fitzroy, who is a circus performer turned horse jockey from Ireland, and Aaron Whitworth, our very complicated quiet hero who runs a horse stable.  Their interaction together is priceless. I smiled, reflected on God’s goodness,  and my heart was touched as I read their story.  

The secondary characters brought depth to the novel in their interaction with the main characters.  I recognized many from other novels by Hunter.   After I finished reading I could not help but wonder when I will see them again, and if they will be in the third book in this series.  

This story brought me joy!  Kristi Hunter magically weaves romance, humor, friendship and horsemanship into an amazing Regency story while gently reminding us that our God is a God who loves to redeem things.  This is a theme that I always need to remember. 

 I can highly recommend Winning the Gentleman by Kristi Ann Hunter.

The Indebted Earl by Erica Vetsch

 Like many others I have been waiting for Erica Vetsch’s third book in the Serendipity & Secrets series, The Indebted Earl.  I am pleased to say that my waiting was not in vain and the book is amazing!   The story of Lady Sophia Haverly and Captain Charles Malvern is all that a Regency novel should be.  They both meet under unusual circumstances  after the passing of Lady Haverly’s fiancé, Major Richardson.  Captain Malvern comes to pay his condolences and ends up taking Lady Haverly and her companion to Devon to his new estate where he is now an Earl.  The story is pure Regency with assemblies, romance, wonderful dialogue, a marriage of convenience, smuggling, a setting on the coast of England, and wards that appear out of nowhere.  Truly a delight!  

 Erica Vetsch is now one of my new go to authors  for a wonderful Regency read.  She has  all   I love in a Regency novel.  God’s sovereignty is discussed in a beautiful and meaningful way.   Truly an inspiring Regency read.  I recommend The Indebted Earl.

Philippa Holds Court by Jennie Goutet

Philippa Holds Court by Jennie Goutet is the second book in the Clavering Chronicles, and is a stand alone Regency novel.   Philippa, our heroine, is a vibrant person whose intellect and skills I found endearing.  Our hero, Jack, juggles so much in his life that love has yet to come into the picture. I wanted to jump in the story and meet them both. 

This was a fascinating Regency story as it involved the attempt at repealing the corn laws in 1819, and  gave you a glimpse into the workings of the British Parliament.  Jennie Goutet research provided an excellent backdrop for a fantastic story. 

Philippa Holds Court has wonderful romance, personable characters, interesting backstory, and is a true joy to read!  As a lover of all things Regency I am thrilled to add Philippa Holds Court to my Regency Library.   I highly recommend it.
